This study is an attempt to understand the changes of the rates of diseases by way of analyzing the number of cancer-inpatients during the period 1960-1975 in 35 hospitals out of 292 hospitals (62 general hospitals; 230 hospitals). The total number of the patients in 49862 (434 in 1960, 1399 in 1965, 3350 in 1970 and 44679 in 1971-1975). The patients were classified on the basis of Korean Standard Classification of Disease of January 1, 1979(which conformed to the revised-in-1976 International Disease-Classified Table of W.H.O.).
The results are as follows;
1. The rates of cancer-inpatients of each hospital were 6.4% in 1960, 10.3% in 1965, 4.9% in 1970, and 6.9% in 1971-1975;the average ratio in the period was 6.8%
2. In 1960, out of 434 cancer-inpatients malignant neoplasm of oesophagus covered 19.35%(84 patients); benign neoplasm of ovary 10.14%(44 patients);neoplasm of uncertain behavior of endocrine glands end nervous system 6.91%(30 patients); benign neoplasm of respiratory and intrathoacic organs 4.61%(20 patients);malignant neoplasm of larynx 3.92%(17 patients); Haemangioma and lymphangioma 3.46%(15 patients);malignant neoplasm of female breast 3.23%(14 patients);malignant neoplasm of cervix uteri, malignant neoplasm of eye and malignant enoplasma of lip, respectively 3%(13patients,each);malignant neoplasma of colon and lymphoid leukaemia, respectively, 2.54%(11 patients, each) and so on.
In 1965, out of 1399 cancer-inpatients, malignant neoplasm of oesophagus coveres 12.65%(patients; 177);malignant neoplasm if rectum, rectosigmoid junction and anus 8.51%(119); lipoma 5.79%(81); malignant neoplasm of cervix uteri 5.65%(79); benign neoplasm of skin 5.15%(72); malignant neoplasma of connective and other soft tissue 3.15%(44); malignant neoplasm of other and ill-defined sites within the lip, oral cavity and pharynx 2.50%(35) and so on.
In 1970, out of 3350 cancer-patients, malignant neoplasm of oesophagus covered 18.21%(patients: 610); malignant neoplasm of cervix uteri 9.25%(310); malignant neoplasm of rectum, rectosigmoid junction and anus 8.72%(292); benign neoplasm of ovary 8.59%(288); malignant neoplasm of small intestine, including duodenum(204); malignant neoplasm of larynx(143); benign neoplasm of lip, oral cavity and pharynx(113); benign neoplasm of other female genital organs(96); malignant neoplasm of colon(83)and so on.
In 1971-1975, out of 44679 cancer-inpatients, malignant neoplasm of oesophagus covered 16.7%(7457 patients); malignane neoplasm of rectum, rectosigmoid junction and anus 6.93(3098); malignant neoplasm of cervix uteri 6.03%(2695); malignant neoplasm of larynx 4.68%(2092);uterine leiomyoma 4.2%(1876); benign neoplasm of ovary 3.83%(1712)and so on.
And the disease-rates of the 49862 cancer-inpatients between 1960 and 1975 were shown in order as such; malignant neoplasm of rectum, rectosigmoid junction and anus(7.04%;3511), malignant neoplasm of cervix uteri(6.21%;3097), malignant neoplasm of larynx, malignant neoplasm of ovary, uterine leiomyoma, benign neoplasm of lip, oral cavity and pharynx and so on.
3. The rates of the 49862 cancer-inpatients between 1960 and 1975 according to Korean Standard Classification of Disease were shown in order as follows; malignant neoplasm of digeotive organs and peritoneum (31.5%,15715 patients), benign neoplasms(20.1%), malignant neoplasm of lymphatic and haematopoietic tissue(12.5%), malignant neoplusm of other and unspecified sites(10.1%) malignant neoplasm of genitourinary organs(9.6%), malignant neoplasms of respiratory and in trath oracic organs(5.4%), malignant neoplasms of lip, oral carity and pharynx(4.8%) and so on.
